Acura Recalls 48,000 SUV Models

Lauren Fernandez1 year ago

Acura has recalled 45,000 MDX and RLX SUVs due to a malfunctioning automatic breaking system in the vehicles.

About the Acura SUV Recall

According to International Business Times (IBT), the 45,000 Acura SUVs have a glitch in their automatic emergency breaking system.

The Associated Press (AP) reported that the malfunction increases risk of collision. The automatic emergency breaking system, also called the “Collision Mitigation Braking System,” uses radar to scan conditions in front of the vehicle. The system will automatically slow down the vehicle to avoid collision and reduce damage, should the SUV be at risk of hitting another vehicle.

The system equipped in the recalled SUVs was malfunctioning by braking while driving behind accelerating vehicles or beside metal guardrails. This malfunction increases the risk of rear-end collision.

Honda Motor Co. Ltd. informed regulators and the public that dealers will fix the problem in recalled SUVs without charge.

Additional Details of the Recalled Acura SUVs

  • In both November 2013 and June 2014, an Acura braked suddenly without reason, which resulted in a rear-end collision.
  • The recalled products are MDX and RLX Acura SUV models from the 2014 and 2015 model years.
