Alleged Drunk Driver Kills 2, Injures 3

A drunk Houston man killed a 6-year-old child and a homeless man and injured several others in three separate accidents on Sunday 26th of April before being arrested by police.

Details of the Three Accidents

According to KHOU, 34-year-old man Blaine T. Boudreaux is being charged with intoxication manslaughter, intoxication assault, and failure to stop and render aid in connection with three accidents which occurred within three hours of each other.

The first accident happened around 3:30 p.m. in the 6600 block of Fannin, resulting in the injury of two passengers, including a 2-year-old.

The second accident happened sometime between 5:15 and 6 p.m. in 4400 block of Texas 5 Spur. This accident allegedly caused the death of a 61-year-old homeless man; whose body was found on Monday afternoon along with a piece of the bumper from Boudreaux’s trunk.

The third accident occurred after Boudreaux passed out at a red light in the 1400 block of Lockwood and the East Freeway feeder road. Another driver honked to wake him so Boudreaux ran the light and crashed into a Honda civic. This led to the death of Joshua Medrano, 6, who was riding with his mother. The mother is suffering from broken bones and a collapsed lung.

After the third accident, Boudreaux failed a sobriety test and was arrested, Officers’ judgments to let him go when he was first caught are being questioned.

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):

  • In 2013, there were 1,089 people killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes where a driver was under the influence of alcohol. This is 32.2% of the total number of people killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes.
  • During 2013, more DUI – Alcohol crashes were reported in the hour between 2:00 am and 2:59 am than any other hour of the day. Also, more of these crashes occurred on Saturday than any other day of the wee
  • In 2013, there were 460 people killed in crashes involving distracted driving. This is a 2.34% decrease from 2012.
