At Least 12 Students Injured in Waxahachie School Bus Crash

12 students reported injuries after a Waxahachie ISD school bus left the road and overturned in Ellis County, Texas Tuesday morning.

About the Waxahachie Bus Accident

According to CBS-DFW, the school bus was traveling along FM 879 in Ellis County between Waxahachie and Palmer it lost control, went off the road, and ended up on its side around 8 am.

A representative of the Texas Department of Public Safety stated that the driver apparently veered toward the median before overcorrecting, causing the bus to overturn.

12 of the 19 students aboard the bus were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries – five were reportedly taken to Baylor Medical Center in Waxahachie and the other seven were taken to Children’s medical Center and Dallas. At least one student suffered broken bones.

The accident is still under investigation and the ages of the students involved have not been released.

  • Using available traffic data, TxDOT estimates:
    • One person was killed in a traffic accident every 2 hours and 36 minutes.
    • One person was injured every 2 minutes and 16 seconds.
    • A reportable crash occurred every 71 seconds.
