Destiny Baker3 years ago

Five PSE&G employees and two workers with the contractor Henkels & McCoy were injured Tuesday after a home in Ewing Township reportedly exploded and caught fire.

Officials believe residents may have been hurt, but do not know how many.

Details of the New Jersey Explosion

According to WABC, the blast occurred around 1 pm in a condominium development along Crockett Lane in Ewing Township, roughly 10 miles from Trenton.

Early reports indicate that PSE&G had responded to a report of a gas line broken by a contractor in the area shortly before noon leading to speculation that the explosion may have been linked.

One person has been listed in critical condition while others suffered head injuries, respiratory injuries and various fractures.

Emergency crews are conducting house-to-house searches and visiting area hospitals as they attempt to identify any additional victims.

At least one home was completely destroyed. A nearby apartment complex also sustained damage including broken windows.

Common Causes of Gas Explosions

Common causes of gas explosions include:

  • Faulty piping
  • Negligent maintenance
  • Damage meters and regulators
  • Defective control valves
  • Digging or excavation near an existing pipeline
