Athens Daycare TV Incident Results in Child’s Death
About the Daycare Death
First responders went to Kiddie Korner Daycare following reports of a child with a nosebleed. Further inspection of the child at the hospital determined more severe injuries.
Daycare workers have stated the child climbed on the TV stand, causing it to fall on the child. The adult was talking to a parent when the incident occurred.
The child later died at the hospital. The daycare Facebook page noted grief counseling is offered, and the facility would be closed Friday.
No charges have been filed to the daycare or the workers, according to the WRCB.
10TV News was told that the mother of the child was an employee at the center.
East Tennessee Children’s Hospital sees this kind of occurrence frequently, and they often see toddlers who want to see what is on top of a piece of furniture, according to a statement made by Physician Heather Edgley.
Edgley conveys her advice and concern by stating how shocked parents are, and how upset they are that a child sustained an injury in their care. She states that prevention is crucial for anyone who will have a toddler around.
