Ronald T. Hancock
Mr. Ronald T. Hancock is a veteran trial attorney with more than 30 years of litigation experience.
Mr. Hancock grew up in West Texas and spent his formative years working on farms, in a lumber yard, in the oil fields, and as on air talent at a local radio station. While working in order to pay for college, he completed his bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University in three years, graduating magna cum laude in 1980. In 1983, he received his law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law. Mr. Hancock then moved to Houston and began to practice law at the age of 24.
Mr. Hancock began his legal practice at Hays McConn in 1983 where he advanced to partner. In 1993, he joined Nelson & Zeidman as a partner. In short order, this firm went through several evolutions becoming Nelson, McCormick, Hancock & Newton, then McCormick, Hancock & Newton, and lastly McCormick & Hancock. He served as managing partner for the majority of this time. In late 2014, Mr. Hancock formed Ronald T. Hancock & Assoc., P.C.
He began his practice handling a diversified docket including products liability, premises liability, workers’ compensation and automobile collision cases. Thereafter, for over 15 years, Mr. Hancock’s practice focused on toxic tort, mass tort, and products liability litigation. He handled thousands of personal injury claims during that period.
Litigating these types of cases requires an excellent working relationship with attorneys on both sides of the docket, and Mr. Hancock was always successful in that regard. Mr. Hancock’s organizational skills and grasp of the “big picture” have enabled him to effectively handle and successfully conclude thousands of cases while always remaining keenly aware of the particular needs of his clients. Further, this enabled him to work closely with many younger lawyers whom he thoroughly enjoyed mentoring.
For the past few years, Mr. Hancock has split his time representing parties on both sides of the civil docket, having developed a practical understanding for the needs of all litigants. Mr. Hancock has also received Martindale Hubble’s highest rating for an attorney, “AV Preeminent,” for over two decades.
Following 20-plus years of litigation experience on both sides of the docket, Mr. Hancock undertook the development of a mediation practice, having completed training at the A.A. White Dispute Resolution Center. Mr. Hancock undertook this step only after having been encouraged to do so by a number of attorneys on both sides of the docket with whom he closely worked for many years. He brings to the table the personality to work with all types of individuals, the ability to bring simplicity to the solving of complex issues, and the creativity to facilitate resolution scenarios beyond the norm. It is his sincere hope that a calm, respectful, and professional demeanor will enhance not only the likelihood of conflict resolution, but also the individual experience of the participants.
Beyond his work as an attorney, Mr. Hancock and his wife have three children ranging from college graduate to high school freshman. Throughout the years, he served as a coach for multiple football, basketball, baseball, and soccer teams, even though he admittedly lacked personal experience in the latter. His office is full of treasured mementos pertaining to these teams, and he forged a number of lifelong relationships with parents and players as a result. Mr. Hancock has been an ordained Deacon at Second Baptist Church since 1995 and has served in many volunteer capacities there over the years.
