Alec R. Simpson
Attorney at Thomas J. Henry Law's Austin Office
Mr. Alec R. Simpson is a diligent attorney from Southern California.
Mr. Simpson earned his Juris Doctor from Golden Gate University School of Law. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California. In law school, Alec was admitted as a member of the Moot Court Board, made the Dean’s List each semester from 2011-2013, became an editor for the Environmental Law Journal, earned the Witkin Award for highest grade in Securities Regulation, and was President of the Intellectual Property Law Association. Above all, Alec’s most valued law school achievement was his summer of law studies in Paris where he learned European Union law and France’s Civil Code at the Université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense
During law school, Mr. Simpson also interned with a San Francisco law firm which focused on entertainment and technology law. During this time, Mr. Simpson drafted terms of services, hosting agreements, privacy and publicity agreements, OEM agreements, and bundling rights agreements. He also helped prepare and file trademark and copyright applications as well as cease and desist notifications under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. His execution of cease and desist notifications resulted in 15 websites being taken down due to infringement.
Mr. Simpson went on to work as a law clerk with a boutique litigation firm handling Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and bad faith insurance claims. In this role, Mr. Simpson was responsible for drafting and preparing pleadings for both state and federal courts as well as drafting and preparing Motions for Summary Judgement, Motions to Dismiss, Motions for Reconsideration, and Ex Parte Hearings. He also prepared discovery requests and responses, communicated with clients, prepared clients for trial testimony, and prepared demand letters, mediation briefs, and settlement agreements.
Immediately before joining Thomas J. Henry Law, Mr. Simpson worked for six years with a Los Angeles personal injury firm, during which time he assisted in jury trials, argued motions, appeared at hundreds of depositions, and negotiated settlements of complex personal injury cases. He managed more than 100 cases from intake to resolution and chaired three trials. He also deposed human resources representatives, expert witnesses, corporate and government executives, and employee witnesses. He then took a short sabbatical during which he worked freelance, learned the programming language Ruby, and studied for the Texas State Bar.
Mr. Simpson’s motto is Labor Omnia Vincit, meaning “Hard work conquers all.” He attributes the dynamic and unique approach he brings to his work as a result of his experiences, and he prides himself on developing excellent client relationships by earning his clients’ trust — the most important aspect of law practice.
Beyond his work as an attorney, Mr. Simpson is a road bike enthusiast, life-long tennis player, and is slowly making the transition to golf. He loves to go on hikes with his wife and their Austin Pets Alive rescue dog, Karl. He is also a Dual Citizen of the United States of America and New Zealand.
