Cory A. Alford

Mr. Cory A. Alford is an attorney at Thomas J. Henry Law, joining the law firm’s Houston office in 2022.

Mr. Alford received his Bachelor of Arts from Morehouse College, his Master in Arts from the University of Texas at Dallas, and his Juris Doctorate from Southern University Law Center.

After law school, Mr. Alford was the managing attorney at the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence. At the coalition, Mr. Alford engaged with stakeholders as a strategist to improve Louisiana’s systemic legal response to domestic violence, focusing on issues such as protection orders, custody, divorce, housing, and immigration. Mr. Alford also provided technical assistance to advocates, law enforcement, mental health professionals, and law firms on a wide range of issues, including litigation strategy, policy, shelter compliance, and internal procedures. Often, Mr. Alford assisted attorneys by drafting memoranda, conducting legal research, case strategy, and trial preparation. Furthermore, Mr. Alford has drafted legislation for the Louisiana Legislature, conducted continuing legal education trainings for attorneys, and provided statewide trainings to public interest professionals.

Mr. Alford was also selected by the Louisiana State Bar Association to join the Legal Innovators for Tomorrow (LIFT) program. The program’s purpose was to increase access to civil legal aid for low-income disaster victims in resolving property issues and estate planning in the wake of Louisiana’s catastrophic flooding in August of 2016.  Mr. Alford has received several awards for his work while helping underserved members of the community.
