Tanya L. Burke

Mrs. Tanya L. Burke holds a Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law, a Master of Science in Accounting and Financial Management from University of Maryland University College, a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Winston-Salem State University, and an Associate’s Degree in Russian Studies from the Defense Language Institute.

Mrs. Burke’s legal experience began during law school when she worked as a Moody Veterans Law Fellow with Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid. There, she completed driver’s license restorations and criminal record expunctions for military veteran clients. She was also a Moody Veterans Law Fellow with San Antonio Legal Services Association where she provided legal assistance to veterans in various areas including housing, wills and estates, guardianships, and divorce.

Mrs. Burke also served as a student attorney with the St. Mary’s University School of Law Center for Legal and Social Justice.  In that role, Mrs. Burke represented clients in wills and estates, probate, and divorce cases.

Prior to law school, Mrs. Burke served over 26 years in the US Army as a Military Intelligence Officer where she gained supervisory and managerial experience leading teams in dynamic, demanding global environments.  Mrs. Burke worked with all branches of the US Military, with North Atlantic Treaty Organization member countries, and with other allied countries conducting domestic and global operations.

Mrs. Burke’s awards and recognitions include the ABA 2019-2020 Southwest Regional Arbitration Team Competition (Champions), ABA 2019-2020 National Arbitration Team Competition (6th Place), Pro-Bono College Inductee (Fall 2019, Fall 2020), Octo-Finalist Jimi Derrick Moot Court Competition (Runner-up for Best Rookie Award) 2019, Celebration of Service Award 2019, PSJD Pro Bono Publico Award Finalist 2021, LTC Thomas W. Knowlton Military Intelligence Award, Order of Saint Barbara Air Defense Award, and 23 other Military Awards, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
