Austin Man Hit by Car While Crossing IH-35

A man trying to cross Interstate 35 on foot was struck by a vehicle on Sunday morning at around 6:50 a.m.

Details about the Pedestrian Accident

According to KXAN News based in Austin, the southbound lanes on Interstate 35 were disrupted near 51st Street after an accident involving a pedestrian.

Austin Police said that the crash happened around 6:50 a.m. near 51st Street. The lanes on southbound Interstate 35 were shut down for several hours while police investigated the accident. Emergency responders from the Austin-Travis County EMS transported the man, said to be in his 20s, to University Medical Center Brackenridge with injuries that could be life-threatening.

At this point, it is unclear why the man was trying to cross the interstate on foot.

The driver of the car that hit the man crossing the street did stay on the scene and cooperated with authorities.
