Austin Teen Charged with Manslaughter

19-year-old Mario Ruiz-Leyva is facing multiple charges in connection to a fatal South Austin collision that left two dead and one seriously injured.

About the South Austin Car Crash

According to the Austin American-Statesman, Ruiz-Leyva was traveling southbound on the Interstate 35 frontage road when he ran a red light and collided with a black Toyota Camry around 2 a.m. Friday.

The two occupants of the Camry were pronounced dead at the scene while Reuiz-Leyva and his passenger suffered serious injuries – both were taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge for treatment.

As a result of the accident, Ruiz-Leyva has been charged with two counts of manslaughter, two counts of intoxicated manslaughter, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a crash.
