Authorities Investigate Trucking Accident Near Texas/Louisiana Border

Westbound traffic on Interstate 20 was re-routed onto exit 628, Scottsville, Texas after an accident involving two tractor-trailers occurred.     

About the 18-Wheeler Accident

According to KSLA, around 2:30 a.m. on Friday, an 18-wheeler traveling west rear-ended another semi driving in the same direction.

The accident took place west of Scottsville just eight miles from the Texas/Louisiana state line according to Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and deputies with the Harrison County Sheriff's office.

The crash caused one of the 18-wheelers to catch fire to which the Scottsville Fire Department responded immediately. However, the accident ultimately resulted in the death of two people.

All westbound traffic on I-20 was redirected onto exit 628 until the interstate was reopened around noon.

  • From 2008-2010, an estimated 194,000 highway vehicle fires occurred in the United States each year resulting in an annual average of 300 deaths.
  • 57% of fatal vehicle fires were the result of a collision.
  • About one in seven fires responded to by fire departments across the nation is a highway vehicle fire.
  • The leading factor contributing to the ignition of highway vehicle fires was mechanical failure.
