Bicycle Recalls- Injuries Reported
Shimano American Corporation and Advanced Sports Inc., in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, (CPSC), recently issued recalls on Mountain Bicycles and Women's Cruiser Bicycles.
Mountain Bike Recall
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice, Shimano American Corporation is voluntarily recalling about 213 Mountain Bikes due to a faulty handlebar attachment. One incident has been reported by Shimano of a rider falling and suffering arm and torso injuries. Product Information:
- Recall involves PRO Atherton Mountain Bike handlebar stems.
- Sold at REI, bicycle specialty stores, and dealers nationwide from October 2009 to November 2010 for about $120.
Women's Cruiser Bike Recall
Advanced Sports Inc. is recalling approximately 10,500 Fuji Saratoga Women’s Bicycles due to a faulty frame which can break, posing a crash risk to riders. According to the recall notice, there have been 12 reports of frames breaking, resulting in two injuries. Product information:
- Recall involves 2008-2010 Saratoga 1.0, Saratoga 2.0, Saratoga 3.0 and Saratoga 4.0 models.
- Sold at specialty bicycle stores nationwide from November 2007 through December 2011 for between $300 and $500.
