1 Dead, 7 Injured in Central Texas Crash


According to KWTX, a teenager was fatally injured in a two-vehicle collision along a rural road near Salado, Texas. Seven others were injured in the accident.

About the Fatal Texas Crash

19-year-old Juan Carlos Enriquez-Tovar was killed Thursday, when a Ford Expedition he was a passenger in collided with a Nissan Pathfinder on Farm-to-Market 2843 about one mile outside of Salado.

Reports indicate Tovar was in the rear passenger seat of the Expedition, which overturned following the initial impact. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Seven others were injured in the accident. Authorities confirmed that all the injured were riding in the Expedition. The driver of the Pathfinder was traveling alone and was not injured.

Investigators believe the Pathfinder may have drifted across the median into oncoming traffic.

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):

  • 3,534 people were killed in traffic collisions in Texas in 2014, a 3.7-percent increase from the 3,408 deaths reported in 2013.
  • 1,974 of the 2014 deaths were attributed to accidents that occurred in rural areas of the state.
  • Head-on collisions killed 581 people in 2014.
  • An additional 237,941 people were injured in auto accidents in Texas in 2014.
