12-Year-Old Girl Hospitalized after Hit by Van

According to KWTX, a 12-year-old girl was crossing a busy street on her bicycle in Hewitt, Texas, when she was struck by an oncoming van, leaving her in critical condition.

A Terrible Tragedy, Says Police Chief

Sonia Harris, a Midway Middle School student, and her friend were riding their bicycles across Hewitt Drive when Harris was struck by a northbound van, says KWTX. The accident occurred around 7:45 p.m. on Sunday evening.

According to a Midway ISD message, Harris remains hospitalized in critical condition, where she’s sedated and intubated.

Harris was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center before being flown to McLane Children’s Hospital in Temple for treatment.

The Hewitt police Chief told KWTX that a team of accident investigators are taking a look into the incident.
