The Louisiana man, 47-year-old Neil Dejean, was driving a black Mercedes at the time of the crash. He had three passengers with him in the car.
Dejean’s Mercedes collided with a red minivan carrying a family of five. Two girls, ages 11 and 7, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two adults and another child were hospitalized. Dejean and two of his passengers were also hospitalized.
The accident occurred on Highway 17 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Upon a search of Dejean’s car after the crash, police found an open container of alcohol. However, Dejean was not charged with driving under the influence.
Due to the deaths of the young girls, Dejean is facing two charges of reckless homicide. In addition, South Carolina Highway Patrol officers are still investigating the accident.
