According to WSET, nearly two dozen pedestrians were injured after a car crashes through a parking lot at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia on Sunday evening.

Alcohol does not Appear to be Factor

Police responded to an incident following the NASCAR race at Martinsville Speedway at around 5:30 p.m. local time. A Chevrolet convertible attempted to pass a Jeep in the congested parking lot, but ended up wrecking into the Jeep and crashing into many pedestrians.

WSET reports that 22 people sustained injuries during the crash, most treated on the scene for minor injuries. Seven people received treatment at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville and two others were transported to Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, N.C.

Emergency crews told WSET they did not know the extent of the hospitalized victims’ injuries, but they did not believe them to be life-threatening.

The man driving the convertible was arrested and could face charges. Officials say alcohol did not appear to have played a role in the wreck.
