22,000 San Antonio Crashes So Far This Year – 64 Deaths

22,000 crashes and 64 deaths have been reported already in Bexar County this year, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

San Antonio has experienced alarming numbers of automobile crashes in the past, the San Antonio Express-News reports.

Last year, the tally reached almost 60,500 crashes. This year, statistics from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) show how quickly San Antonio is approaching last year’s number with 22,000 crashes already reported in 2019.

Reasons for San Antonio Crashes in 2019

  • 9 people died from speed-related crashes.
  • 21 deaths are due to distracted-driving incidents.
  • About 150 drivers crashed because they were on their cell phones.
  • 881 crashes were caused by drivers impaired by alcohol.
  • More than 10,000 crashes were caused by distracted drivers.
