280,000 Infant Rattles Recalled for Choking Hazard

VTech has issued a recall for roughly 280,000 infant rattles after determining the items pose a choking hazard.

About the Vtech Infant Rattle Recall

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the ears on the elephant shaped rattles can break off, posing a choking hazard to young children. VTech has received five incident reports concerning the defect.

Parent should take the recalled rattles from their children and keep them out of reach. They can contact VTech to request a full refund or credit for a replacement product.

The recalled rattles were sold at Walmart, Kmart, Meijer, Mills Fleet Farm, Seventh Avenue, and online at Amazon.com and Zulily.com.

Description of the Recalled Infant Rattles

The following information was provided by the CPSC:

  • The recall involves VTech Shake and Sing Elephant Rattles with the model number 80-14800.
  • The rattles have a purple elephant with yellow and blue ears at one end and a black an white plastic teething ring at the other end.
  • The rattles are roughly seven inches long and the number 1848 is printed on the back near the battery door.
  • Recalled units were sold between November 2015 and November 2017 for around $8.
