More than 30 vehicles were involved in a mass accident on I-96 that left three dead and 11 injured.

About the Fatal Howell Accident

The accident occurred around 9:30 am on Thursday morning near the Fowlerville exit and Wallace Rd.

Fatalities involved two drivers and one passenger in two separate vehicles that crashed on westbound lanes of I-96, near the beginning of the pileup. However, USA Today reports that the victims’ vehicles did not appear to be the cause of the accident.

The crash closed stretches of eastbound and westbound lanes of I-96 and appears to have been weather related. The sheriff’s office reported that snow had just begun to fall, blanket the area and freeze, causing treacherous driving conditions.
