4 Dead in San Antonio Head-On Collision

According to KSAT 12, four are dead following a head-on crash in San Antonio.

Details of Head-On Collision

Witnesses note the auto accident occurred when a driver of an SUV was speeding on the 13700 block of Applewhite Road heading northbound. The driver hit another car at high speed causing the SUV to spin out and hit a median. The SUV then ended up in southbound lanes where it was struck head-on by an 18-wheeler.

The head-on collision resulted in an explosion and fire, killing four passengers.  The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

Whether alcohol was involved is still under investigation.

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):

  • 3,534 people were killed in traffic accidents in Texas in 2014. This marks a 3.7-percent increase over the previous year.
  • 1,974 of the deaths recorded in 2014 occurred in rural areas of the stat.
  • 581 deaths were attributed to head-on collisions.
  • An additional 237,941 people were killed in auto accidents in Texas in 2014.
