4 Killed in Deadly Vehicle Collision near Dumas

Four people were killed in Texas on Tuesday when two vehicles collided with each other.

Details of the Fatal Head-On Collision

According to several news outlets, including the website of KWTX-TV and the Amarillo Globe-News, Marc Joseph, 45, and his passenger, Kenzy Sime, 38, were riding in his 2011 Nissan Rogue when he crashed into the 2017 Toyota Corolla driven by Gregorio Avalos-Rivera, 69, and his passenger, Jose Chavez, 57.

This accident took place on the northbound lane of U.S. Route 287, two miles north of Dumas (a city located in the northern part of the state in the Texas Panhandle, 45 miles north of Amarillo), around 5:19 a.m. this Tuesday on February 7th 2017.

The northbound lane was closed off for over five hours following the crash. The Texas Department of Public Safety, still investigating the accident, stated that all four passengers were wearing their seat belts at the time.

  • 3,531 people were killed in car crashes in Texas in 2015, marking little change from the 3,536 deaths recorded in 2014.
  • Of the fatalities recorded, 1,925 occurred in rural areas of the state while 581 were attributed to head-on collisions.
  • An additional 246,335 people were injured in auto accidents in Texas in 2015 with 17,011 people suffering serious injuries.
  • It is estimated that a reportable crash occurred in Texas every 61 seconds in 2015.
