66 Pedestrian Deaths Recorded in Bexar County Since Last Year

According to Fox San Antonio, figures from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) show that more than 700 pedestrian-related crashes in Bexar County have occurred since last September, resulting in 66 pedestrian fatalities.

14-Year-Old Teen is Latest Pedestrian Victim

The numbers come on the heels of another tragedy that occurred on Monday morning on Interstate 10 in San Antonio. A 14-year-old boy was struck and killed by a semi-truck when trying to cross the interstate at Gevers Street, according to Fox San Antonio.

TxDOT says pedestrian accidents in San Antonio and the surrounding areas occur far too often. Chief William McManus of the San Antonio Police Department says that the speeds of cars are deceptive and hard to judge.

According to Fox San Antonio, TxDOT is working on building more pedestrian bridges across busy roadways, including one over Highway 90 between Loop 410 and W. Military Drive.
