Abilene Man Charged in Fatal Bicycle Accident

A  suspected drunk driver has been charged with manslaughter for the death of a Abilene Christian University student.

Details of the Fatal Abilene Accident

According to KTXS, Charles Schaefer, 20, has been arrested and charged with manslaughter following a November 23 accident in which he struck and killed a 20-year-old bicyclist.

Casey Ellis was riding her bicycle home from work when she was struck and killed by Schaefer’s vehicle at the intersection of Ambler Avenue and N. Judge Ely Boulevard.

Initial crash reports suggested Schaefer had the right-of-way, but a revised report acknowledged both Ellis and Schaefer entered the intersection during a half-second to two second period when all lights were red.

A Taylor County grand jury returned an indictment of manslaughter for Schaefer in February. He was arrested Thursday as part of an effort to round of individuals with warrants.
