A fifth ART bus has been involved in a crash after only eight days of operation in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
According to KOAT 7, there was a fifth accident involving an “ART Bus,” the Albuquerque Rapid Transit bus. The fifth incident occurred around 5:15 p.m on December 8th, a Sunday evening. The accident happened on Central and New York avenues, heading southwest.
A spokesperson for the city relayed that a vehicle traveling westward on Central over-corrected itself and hit the side of an ART bus. The bus suffered only minor damages which were limited to the cosmetic realm.
A witness, Jason Stuart, who was having dinner across the street at the El Vado Motel said, “I saw the bus coming down Central heading west and then, right as it went out of sight, I heard a crunch and I thought, ‘Oh no, number five,’ Because the lanes were there for so long without buses, people were just using them as an empty lane.”
The city would like to remind its drivers to exercise the use of their side-view mirrors when driving down Central, especially when drivers can make U-turns and lefts.
