FOX 8 reports that 17-year-old Sarah Harmening of Huntsville, Alabama was killed Thursday when a bus bound for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport crashed on Camp Creek Parkway in Fulton County.
The bus was carrying roughly 40 passengers from Huntsville’s Mount Zion Baptist Church when the crash occurred. The church members were scheduled to fly to Botswana as part of a 10-day missionary trip.
Police say the crash began when the bus made an unsafe lane change and collided with a Chrysler. The bus driver overcorrected following the initial collision causing the bus to lose control and overturn. The bus then slid into a Mercedes that was traveling in the opposite direction.
Harmening was pronounced dead at the scene. The 37 remaining passengers all sustained injuries in the crash and were transported to area hospitals.
The crash remains under investigation.
