13-year-old Pedestrian Struck, Killed by 16-year-old Driver

According to 1011 News, a middle school student died after being struck in a crosswalk by a 16-year-old driver in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Saturday night.

Details of the Fatal Pedestrian Accident

Police say Taylor Miller, 13, attempted to cross West O Street near NW 20th Street at approximately 10:30 p.m. when the accident occurred.

A 16-year-old driver in a pickup truck drove eastbound on West O Street and struck the young pedestrian as she ran into the crosswalk, reports 1011 News. Officials say Miller entered the roadway when the driver had a yellow light. Miller died at the scene of the crash.

According to 1011 News, the 16-year-old driver attempted to slow down and swerve to avoid the pedestrian but could not avoid hitting her.

The female driver claims she traveled at around 50 mph when the collision occurred. Police did not issue a ticket or citation to the driver, reports 1011 News.
