Angelica Matamoros, 20, drove south on U.S. Highway 61 at around 6:00 p.m. when the accident occurred. Matamoros crossed the center dividing line and slammed head-on into an SUV traveling northbound.

WWLTV reports that Matamoros, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from her vehicle during the crash. After being ejected from her vehicle, she was struck by another driver in a pickup truck. Matamoros died at the scene of the wreck.

The driver of the SUV, 23-year-old Norman Porter, sustained moderate injuries in the collision and received treatment at a local hospital. The driver of the pickup truck did not sustain injuries, reports WWLTV.

Police say the fatality may have been prevented if Matamoros wore a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
