A 19-year-old was arrested in Amarillo early Wednesday morning following a fatal crash along Interstate 40. He has been charged with intoxicated manslaughter.

About the Fatal Amarillo Crash

According to KFDA, the fatal crash occurred on Interstate 40 near Pullman Road around 3:30 am. Police say a van was traveling east in the middle lane of the interstate when it was struck from behind by a pickup truck traveling at a higher rate of speed.

The impact from the collision caused the van to lose control, drive of the roadway, and overturn. The pickup collided with a guardrail before going down the embankment.

Two of the 12 family members traveling in the van were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as a 50-year-old man and an 11-year-old girl. Four other passengers have life threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup, Adam Christian Banbury, 19, was booked on two counts of intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle and two counts of intoxicated assault with a vehicle. The first two charges each carry a two to 20 year prison sentence while the latter two can carry a two to 10 year prison sentence.
