Austin Woman Arrested in Fatal Drunk Driving Accident

An Austin woman has been charged with intoxication manslaughter after killing a moped rider and dragging his vehicle under her Jeep all the way to her house.

Details of the Fatal Austin Accident

According to the Austin American-Statesmen, Olivia Gruwell, 21, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid following a crash in which she struck and killed a moped rider.

The crash occurred at the intersection of 34th Street and Red River Street around 3 am Friday. An affidavit said the woman left the scene of the fatal accident unknowingly dragging the deceased man’s moped all the way back to her home.

Gruwell admitted to having “six to nine mixed alcoholic beverages” before driving home. She said she “felt a bump” as she was driving home and thought she had hit a raccoon or a possum.

The name of the victim has not been released.
