Police say Isaac Ackley had been drinking when he rear-ended the parked 18-wheeler truck at around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday. His passenger, 22-year-old Humble resident Daniel Gomez, died during the crash.

After the fatal accident, the driver’s parents arrived in separate vehicles to the scene of the crash. According to the Houston Chronicle, David, Ackley’s father, drove Ackley back to their home.

Ackley’s father returned to the scene and his wife where he spoke to the police, lying to officers about picking his son up. The Houston Chronicle reports that the man told police he just happened upon the accident.

The police located Ackley at his home, after his sister tried to deter police from finding him. After bringing Ackley back to the scene of the crash, they place him under arrest for second-degree felony intoxication manslaughter and felony failure to stop and render aid.

Ackley’s father also faces charges for misdemeanor hindering apprehension and felony failing to stop and render aid. Ackley’s sister, a minor, faces similar charges, reports the Houston Chronicle.
