Details about the Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident
WNCN News is reporting that a 63-year-old woman from Fayetteville was killed in an accident that happened on Thursday along Interstate 95 near Smithfield when she lost control of her vehicle and it veered off the road before colliding into a tree.
The Florida Highway Patrol has indicated that the woman, identified as Wilma Jean Lewis, was heading north on Interstate 95 at about 4:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon when she lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road.
Witnesses told police that another vehicle, possibly a 2013 or 2014 model Nissan with Florida license plates, was driving at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic. Lewis swerved to avoid the vehicle and then left the roadway.
An investigation into the accident remains ongoing at this time.
