According to the San Antonio Express-News, a head-on collision between an SUV and a tractor-trailer leaves four people dead on San Antonio’s south side on Friday night.

“Vehicle Burned Almost Beyond Recognition”

Witnesses told police that an SUV was travelling erratically on Applewhite Road before it hit another vehicle while traveling northbound. The SUV carrying four people then lost control, hit a center median, and crashed head-on into an 18-wheeler heading south.

The San Antonio Express-News reports that the SUV almost immediately burst into flames. Police pronounced the four occupants dead at the scene. According to police, the entire SUV burned almost beyond recognition.

A toxicology report will determine whether the driver of the SUV was drunk at the time of the wreck, reports the San Antonio Express-News. Police say the vehicle is so burned that it is hard to determine if any alcohol containers were inside.

The driver of the second vehicle and the 18-wheeler did not sustain any injuries during the incident.
