Houston Motorcycle Accident Leaves One Dead

A man is dead following a motorcycle accident that occurred in North Houston Sunday night.

Details of the Fatal Motorcycle Crash

According to the Houston Chronicle, the fatal accident in Houston occurred around 9:30 pm on Parker Road near the North Freeway.

Witnesses initially stated that two motorcyclists were racing prior to the crash; however, later reports suggest the motorcyclist was killed when he attempted to pass two cars.

As the rider crossed into oncoming traffic, he was struck by a vehicle making a left turn into an apartment complex. The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and the motorcycle caught fire.

The identity of the motorcyclist has not been released and the accident remains under investigation.

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):

  • 3,531 people were killed in traffic collisions in Texas in 2015, marking little change from the 3,536 deaths recorded in 2014.
  • Motorcyclists (passengers and operators) accounted for 459 of the fatalities recorded in 2015.
  • Of the 459 motorcyclists killed, roughly 52 percent were not wearing a helmet at the time of their collision.
  • An additional 246,335 people were injured in traffic accidents in Texas in 2015.
