A man was killed on Sunday when he lost control of his smart car after being hit by a stray tire belonging to a U-Haul truck.
Details about the Smart Car Accident
NBC Los Angeles is reporting that a man was killed when a tire flew off a U-Haul truck and caused the driver of a Smart Car to lose control of his vehicle.
The accident happened near the Covina Boulevard off ramp on the 57 Freeway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, southbound lanes were also shut down after the fatal accident.
Officials that responded to the scene of the accident said that a U-Haul was driving along the 57 Freeway just south of the 210 Freeway when it lost one if its tires. The tire then collided with a Smart Car, causing the driver of the Smart Car to lose control.
The driver of the Smart Car suffered severe head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The California Highway Patrol said that the Smart Car was the only vehicle that was involved in the accident.
