Motorcyclist Killed, 1 Injured in Crash with 18-Wheeler

According to WHAS11, two people on a motorcycle were involved in a deadly crash with a semi-truck in Upton, Kentucky, leaving one dead and the other hospitalized.

Truck Driver Uninjured in Collision

Police say David Aldrich, 53, and Kimberly Aldrich, 50, were driving on Interstate 65 south when the accident occurred. In the lane next to them, Timothy Sheehan, 52, was driving his 18-wheeler. According to WHAS11, for reasons unknown to the police, the Aldrich’s motorcycle veered into the 18-wheeler’s lane, clipping the rear left fender.

As a result, the Aldrich’s were ejected from their 1997 Harley Davidson motorcycle. David Aldrich was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Kimberly Aldrich was transported to University of Louisville Hospital in serious condition, but with non-life threatening injuries, according to WHAS11.

  • Helmets are about 37 percent effective in preventing motorcycle deaths and about 67 percent effective in preventing brain injuries.
  • A total of 4,295 motorcyclists died in crashes in 2014.
  • Motorcycle deaths accounted for 13 percent of all motor vehicle crash deaths in 2014.
