National Transportation Safety Board Accuses Tesla for Fatal Crash

Tesla’s automated driving system turned out to be one of the leading culprits behind a fatal 2019 Florida crash following an investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

About the NTSB’s Claims Against Tesla

According to Mercury News, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) revealed that the inadequate monitoring of a new Tesla automated pilot system along with the actions of two drivers is ultimately what led to the fatal wreck.

The NTSB found fault with the Tesla company for developing autopilot software that wasn’t properly regulated and could be used in critical instances where it shouldn’t be. The NTSB suspects the Tesla’s driver was not fully paying attention to the road due to over-reliance on the vehicle’s autopilot.

The NTSB also blamed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for the fatal Florida crash. An official report statement described that the NHTSA did not place proper safety measures in putting safeguard limits on electronic driving systems and locations they can be used.

NHTSA has not been eager to monitor electronic driver assistant technology, according to the NTSB.
