Nissan Recalls Over 130,000 Vehicles Due to Fire Risk
Nissan is recalling approximately 134,000 cars and SUVs worldwide due to a brake fluid leak which could cause a fire.
About the Nissan Car and SUV Recall
According to ABC News, Nissan discovered the problem after a report of a fire in a 2016 Maxima in early June. After an investigation, Nissan found additional fire incidents and decided to issue a recall on August 24.
Nissans says that the seals on antilock brake pumps can leak fluid onto a circuit board, causing an electrical short and potentially a fire. Nissan is advising drivers to not drive their vehicle if the antilock brake warning light comes on for more than 10 seconds, which may signal that a fluid leak is present. Dealers will inspect the serial number on the pump and replace it if the seals are defective.
No injuries have been reported due to the defect, according to Nissan.
Description of the Recalled Nissan Cars and SUVs
The recall involves certain Nissan models:
- 2015 – 2017 Murano SUVs
- 2016 – 2017 Maxima large cars
- Some 2015 – 2016 Murano hybrids
Most of the recalled vehicles are in the United States and Canada. Nissan says the problem has been corrected since it was discovered.
