One Dead, Another Injured Following Head-On Collision in San Antonio

A wrong-way driver is dead and another person injured after a head-on collision South of San Antonio.

Details about the Fatal Head-On Collision

News 4 San Antonio is reporting that a wrong way driver was killed in a head-on collision on the city’s southwest side late Tuesday evening.

According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, the wrong-way driver was intoxicated when she collided head-on with a teenage driver on Interstate 35 near Kinney Road at about 10:30 p.m.

The 57-year-old woman died at the scene of the accident. The other driver, a 17-year-old girl was pulled out of the wreckage and taken to University Hospital via helicopter in critical condition.

The girl has since been identified as Andrea Gamez, a student at Somerset High School, who had just finished work at a Whataburger in Lytle when the accident occurred.

Before the accident happened, Bexar County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said that they received several calls from witnesses trying to report a wrong way driver that was driving south in the northbound lanes.
