Pedestrian Killed Trying to Cross Katy Freeway
Details of the Fatal Pedestrian Accident
According to the Houston Chronicle, around 11:20 p.m. Alexander Hauser attempted to walk across the Katy Freeway near the Grand Parkway and was hit by a 2000 Toyota Avalon, according to deputies.
Hauser went head first through the car’s windshield, landing in the front passenger seat. His legs were severed below the knee due to the force of the impact.
The driver, according to Chron.com, was cut in the face. Responders took him to a local hospital. Officials have yet to release the state of the driver’s condition.
Deputies will continue to investigate the fatal pedestrian accident.

- 3,534 traffic fatalities were recorded in 2014 – a 3.7-percent increase over the 3,408 deaths recorded in 2013.
- Pedestrian fatalities accounted for 486 of the deaths recorded in 2014.
- An additional 237,941 people were injured in auto accidents in 2014 with 17,152 people suffering incapacitating injuries.
- TxDOT estimates a reportable crash occurred every 66 seconds in 2014.
