A 19-year-old former Islander cheerleader from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi was killed in a car crash last month.
About the Fatal San Antonio Crash
According to KIII-TV, Jasmine Goudeau, a nursing student, was tragically killed in a drunken driving accident in San Antonio, Texas on February 17th. San Antonio officials report that a drunk driver was under the influence when he blew through a red light and crashed into Goudeau’s vehicle.
The force of the impact left Goudeau trapped in her vehicle. Emergency personnel were able to extricate her from the vehicle using the jaws of life.
Unfortunately, Goudeau passed away from injuries sustained at a nearby hospital. The perpetrator is currently facing manslaughter charges.
In 2016, 10,497 people were killed in drunk driving crashes, accounting for nearly 30% of all traffic-related deaths recorded in the United States.
17% f the 1,233 traffic deaths among children between the ages of 0 and 14 years reported in 2016 involved a drunk driver.
In 2016 alone, more than 1 million drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics. This represents just 1 percent of the 111 million self-reported episodes of alcohol-impaired driving among U.S. adults each year.
