A third woman has died from injuries she sustained when a suspected drunk driver ran a red light and slammed into her vehicle early Sunday morning.
Alleged Drunk Driver Facing Multiple Felony Charges
According to the Dallas Morning News, 26-year-old Martha Perez died Wednesday morning after sustaining serious injuries Sunday morning when her vehicle was struck by an alleged drunk driver at the intersection of Matlock Road and the Interstate 20 service road in Arlington, Texas.
The accident occurred around 2 am and has already claimed the lives of two other women. Alejandra Alvarado, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene and Alexandria Rodriguez, 19, passed away after being rushed to an area hospital.
A fourth occupant in Perez’s vehicle remains hospitalized, but is expected to survive.
The suspected drunk driver, 38-year-old Eldrick Demond Westbrook has been charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault; however, following Perez’s death, police will likely upgrade the intoxication assault charge to a third count of intoxication manslaughter.

- 3,377 people were killed in auto accidents in Texas in 2013 – a 1.05-percent decrease from the 3,413 deaths recorded in 2012.
- 767 of the traffic fatalities recorded in 2013 occurred at intersection or in connection with an intersection.
- 1,089 death were linked to collisions in which at least one driver was under the influence of alcohol. This accounts for 32.2 percent of all traffic deaths recorded in Texas in 2013.
- TxDOT estimates one person was killed in a traffic collision every 2 hours and 36 minutes and one person was injured every 2 minutes and 16 seconds.
