Two Dead, One Injured in Cypress Crash

A man and woman were killed and a second man has been hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash in Cypress on Monday.

Details of the Cypress Crash

According to the Houston Chronicle, the Cypress auto accident occurred around 9:40 pm at the intersection of Spring Cypress and the Northwest Freeway feeder road.

Authorities say a Mazda 3 driven by Deshaun Thomas ran a red light at the intersection and struck the passenger side of a Mercedes driven by Jesse Myers. Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene, and Jesse Myers wife, Gloria Myers, was pronounced dead at Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital.

Jesse Myers sustained minor injuries and was also taken to Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.

  • 3,773 people were killed in traffic crashes in Texas in 2016. This marks a 5.45-percent increase from the 3,578 deaths recorded in 2015.
  • Of the fatalities recorded in 2016, 814 were attributed to crashes that occurred at or in relation to intersections.
  • An additional 265,076 people were injured in car crashes in 2016 with 17,582 people sustaining incapacitating injuries.
  • A reportable crash is estimated to have occurred in Texas every 57 seconds in 2016.
