WTSP News is reporting that a 37-year-old bicyclist was killed on Monday evening when he was hit by a car in Lakeland.

According to police who responded to the scene of the accident, the victim has been identified as Chad Michael Darling, of Lakeland. The accident reportedly happened at about 7:10 p.m., when police were called to the scene of the accident involving a bicycle and a vehicle on the 4400 block of South Florida Avenue.

The woman driving the vehicle hit the bicycle as it crossed the pedestrian crosswalk which was flashing red at the time of the accident, according to police. The man was thrown from the bicycle and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to Polk County Emergency Medical Services.
