4 Killed, 5 Injured in CTA Bus Crash on Chicago’s West Side

Four people are dead and at least five others are injured following a CTA bus accident on Chicago’s West Side on Sunday morning.

About the Chicago Bus Crash

According to NBC Chicago, a pin in crash in Chicago’s Garfield Park neighborhood has left four people dead and several others injured.

The crash occurred around 5:55 am when a CTA bus traveling eastbound on Madison St. was struck by a white sedan that was traveling at a high rate of speed. All four occupants of the sedan were killed in the crash with those in the backseat being pinned in the vehicle as it caught fire.

Authorities have identified two of the victims from the sedan as 25-year-old Ashley Moore and 22-year-old Tycika Fairley. Both were passengers in the vehicle.

The bus driver and four of the bus’s passengers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.

  • Transit buses accounted for 33 percent of all bus accident recorded between 2004 and 2014. Inner city buses account for 13 percent of bus accidents.
  • From 2009 to 2014, the number of injury related crashes involving buses and large trucks increased by 55 percent.
