Driver Killed, Several Texas Students Injured in Alabama Bus Crash
Details of the Fatal Bus Crash
According to the Chicago Tribune, the crash occurred along Interstate 10 in Baldwin County at around 5:30 am. The bus was transporting Channelview High School band students back to Harris County after a visit to Disney World.
The depth of the ravine and the severity of the damage to the bus presented unique difficulties to responders, and several passengers had to be cut from the wreckage. Helicopters also responded to the scene.
About 45 people were on the bus when the crash occurred. The driver was killed in the accident, and 34 people, most of whom were teenagers, were treated in hospitals for injuries that ranged from minor to very serious.
It is currently unclear what caused the bus to leave the road and travel into the ravine. The bus charter company which owns the bus, First Class Tours of Houston, announced they are cooperating with authorities and pledged to help with the crash investigation.
