New Mexico Bus Crash Death Toll Reaches 9

Alyssa Norwillo2 years ago

The ninth person to die in a western New Mexico bus crash was identified as an infant, who was receiving treatment in a neonatal intensive care unit, says a hospital spokeswoman.

About the Fatal Bus Crash

The spokeswoman for the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, Alex Sanchez, was not able to provide any additional details on Monday, and the patient’s name has not yet been released.

According to reports, who reportedly spoke to the child’s parents, Christy Westerdale and Joseph Chandler, the infant has been identified as Jordyn Rose. They said that Westerdale went into labor after the bus crash, which happened on August 30th.

UNMHSC posted recently on their Twitter page, saying that three more patients still remain hospitalized following the collision of a tractor-trailer and a Greyhound bus on Interstate 40 near Thoreau.

According to the police, an eastbound tractor-trailer owned by JAG Transportation of Fresno, California, crossed into oncoming lanes after a tire failure on August 30th. The greyhound bus was traveling from Albuquerque to Phoenix, with intentions to continue on to Los Angeles, while the truck was carrying produce from Marina, California to Memphis, Tennessee. It took place 100 miles west of Albuquerque.

Police have reported that the driver of the truck was 35-year-old man. The man hasn’t been identified because he is not facing charges, says the New Mexico State Police.

A spokesman for the State Police didn’t respond to an email regarding potential updates to the investigation.
