Three charter buses were involved in an accident on Interstate I-10 West near mile marker five. Six people, including a bus driver, were taken to nearby hospitals; none of the injuries were considered life threatening.
As reported by USA Today Network, the three charter buses were taking Texas State University football players to their game against NMSU, in Las Cruces.
The accident occurred near Vinton, Texas, around 1:30 pm on November 19.
Las Cruces public schools sent buses to pick up the remaining players and transport them to the game that had been delayed from 2 pm to 3:15 pm, according to NMSU athletic director Mario Moccia.
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), from 2013 to 2014 the number of large trucks or buses involved in injury crashed increased by 21%.
There was a 5% decrease in large trucks and buses involved in fatal crashes from 2013 to 2014.
From 2013 to 2014, large trucks and bus fatalities per 100 million miles traveled by all motor vehicles decreased by 4%.
