Ohio Teen Killed in ATV Accident

A 14-year-old boy died in a tragic ATV accident in Farmersville, Ohio on Thursday evening, according to a report from WHIO News.

Details of the Fatal ATV Accident

Authorities from Jackson Township confirmed that Levi Montoya, 14, died from injuries sustained in an ATV accident in Farmersville. The accident happened at approximately 7 p.m. in the 15000 block of Chicken Bristle Road. Montoya was alone on an ATV in a cornfield when either the vehicle or Montoya’s head struck a tree.

CPR was performed and Montoya was transported by helicopter to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.

ATV Accident Facts and Statistics

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), May through September is when ATV accidents are most likely to occur. On average, over 80 children under the age of 16 are killed in the two peaks months – July and August. In 2012, a total of 353 people were killed in ATV accidents.

In order to prevent injuries and death, the CPSC makes the following recommendations:

  • Do not drive ATVs on paved roads.
  • Children under 16 should not drive ATVs.
  • ATVs should be ridden solo, not with passengers.
  • Always wear a helmet and other protective gear when riding ATVs.
