Child Safety Gates Recalled for Entrapment Hazard

Madison Mill recently recalled two models of foldaway expandable safety gates because of the risk they posed for the entrapment and strangulation of small children.

Details of the Safety Gate Recall

On June 7th, 2017 almost 95,000 units of Madison Mill safety gates were recalled by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in both the United States and Canada. The recall includes the Madison Mill 23 and 25 models of the foldaway gate, which are designed to secure children and small pets into certain parts of the home. The models that were recalled were sold between January 2013 and May 2017 at Do It Best stores.

The main concern with the recalled safety gates is that the v-shaped openings are large enough that a child could stick their head through them. This poses the threat of injury to a child should they somehow become stuck. Another aspect of the recall is the concern that children may be able to fit underneath the gates and gain access to something that is potentially dangerous, such as stairs.

Suggested Consumer Action

Consumers have been advised to immediately cease any usage of the recalled safety gates and to return them in order to receive a full refund.
